Bill Gibson on Sunday was named Constituent of the Year in the 170th Legislative District.
Gibson, 15, is a Somerton resident and sophomore at Holy Ghost Prep.
The teenager is a member of Boy Scout Troop 444, based at Philadelphia Academy Charter School. He was presented with a plaque by state Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-170th dist.) for his efforts to restore a World War I and World War II memorial on the 15000 block of Trevose Ave., outside Somerton United Methodist Church.
While marching with Troop 444 in last year’s Somerton Civic Association-sponsored Memorial Day Parade, Gibson noticed the deteriorating condition of the stone marker and its surroundings. He decided to revitalize the site, complete with landscaping, and credited individuals, businesses and fellow Scouts with helping to make it happen and assure it is maintained.
The award is named in memory of Chuck Null, a 170th district resident who lost a battle with cancer five years ago.
Boyle honored Gibson following completion of a basketball tournament at Abraham Lincoln High School that raised money for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 Survivors Fund.
Erin Gibson, his sister, played on the St. Christopher team that finished as the runner-up in the girls division. William Gibson, his father, is a lieutenant at Northwest Detectives. ••
