In the ongoing cat-and-mouse game involving police and Mayfair-area tire slashers, the mouse turned up on a different corner on Sunday morning.
A resident of the 7100 block of Erdrick St. called police at 11:15 a.m. to report that two tires on a Honda Element had been punctured and flattened, costing the owner about $400 to repair, said Officer Tanya Little, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman.
According to broadcast reports, one or two other vehicles may have been similarly vandalized on the block or around the corner on Princeton Avenue. Little could not confirm that additional vehicles were damaged.
The Citizens Crime Commission is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the vandalism. Call 215–546-TIPS.
Tire slashing has become a nagging problem in a relatively isolated area of the Northeast in recent weeks.
On March 12, tires were punctured on at least five cars on the 4000 block of Aldine St. and the 4000 block of Teesdale St. On March 13, the police department and Fraternal Order of Police teamed to post a $7,500 reward for information leading to the capture of the culprits.
The incidents began on Feb. 13 when at least seven cars were similarly vandalized on the same block of Aldine Street. Six days later, at least 18 cars were targeted on both Aldine and Teesdale streets. On Feb. 22, tires were punctured on two cars on the 7300 block of Erdrick St.
