Bustleton fence painter struck and killed by out-of-control car

Philadelphia police are investigating why a motorist lost control of a car and struck three fence-painters, killing one, in Bustleton early Saturday.

The crash occurred at 6:49 a.m. on the 600 block of Red Lion Road. According to police, a 21-year-old man was driving a 1991 Chevy Caprice westbound when he lost control of the car, jumped the curb on the eastbound side of the road and struck three people positioned in front of an iron fence.

Fire department medics pronounced one victim dead at the scene. He was 43. The two other victims, ages and genders unknown, were taken to Aria Health-Torresdale with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The motorist also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Aria Health-Torresdale.

No criminal charges have been filed. ••
