Countdown to appeal

Pennsylvania citizens have until July 8 to appeal the final plan approved by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission.

The commission, by a 4–1 vote, approved new maps for the 50 seats in the state Senate and 203 seats in the state House of Representatives.

The maps, if approved by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, will take effect for the 2014 elections.

Under the proposed maps, the Northeast would be divided into two Senate districts, the 2nd and the 5th.

As for the House maps, the Northeast would be represented in nine districts.

The 169th Legislative District would move to York County. The district is currently represented by Democrat Ed Neilson, whose home division will be moved into the 174th district, setting up a potential primary showdown with Rep. John Sabatina Jr. in two years. Neilson faces Republican Dave Kralle in November.

Appeals can be sent to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, 601 Commonwealth Ave., P.O. Box 62575, Harrisburg, PA 17106–2575. ••
