Alleged tire slasher waives arraignment

The man accused of slashing the tires on dozens of vehicles in Mayfair waived his right to appear at his Common Pleas Court arraignment last Thursday, but he will continue fighting allegations that he vandalized dozens of his neighbors’ cars.

David Toledo’s defense attorney, William Brennan, told the Northeast Times that a potential guilty plea “is not in the works.” Toledo, 44, is accused of puncturing 49 unattended vehicles near his former home on the 4000 block of Aldine St. from last October through April. Toledo is charged with dozens of counts of criminal mischief, along with possessing an instrument of crime and filing false reports to police.

During a preliminary hearing last month, prosecution witnesses described how Toledo had opportunities to commit the late-night vandalism, but all testified that they did not see the defendant commit the crimes.

A status hearing is scheduled for Aug. 16. A trial date has not been set. Toldeo is free on $40,000 bail. ••
