Mayfair Fall Festival set for this weekend

Republic Bank and the Mayfair Community Development Corporation are co-sponsoring the Mayfair Fall Festival and Farmers Market Preview this Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the 3500 block of Ryan Ave., near the intersection of Frankford and Cottman avenues.

The day will feature farm fresh produce, honey and beeswax candles, organic soaps and body products, homemade pasta sauce, flowers, fresh bagels, gourmet dog treats, baked goods and craft beers.

Vendors include Stern Farms, Wild Flour Bakery, Mill Creek Apiary, Philly Dog Biscuit Company, 5 Sisters Pasta Sauces, Stan’s Health Foods, Mayfair Shop N Bag, Grey Lodge Pub, Torresdale Flowers and Philly Mobile Food Association’s specialty food trucks.

Activities will include face painting, water ice and the live music of the Father Judge Jazz Band, Mike Brenner and Tricia Paffen and Nick Giannetti.

Another fall festival and farmers market preview will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14.

In other news from the Sept. 12 Mayfair Business Association meeting:

• The 42nd annual Steuben Parade will take place this Saturday, beginning at noon.

German-Americans will celebrate their culture and heritage by marching south on Frankford Avenue, from Rhawn Street to St. Vincent Street, starting at noon.

Several business owners do not care for the parade, since the avenue is shut down on a Saturday. They’ll ask organizers to change the parade to a Sunday next year.

• The Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade is set for Sunday, Nov. 18.

The theme is Neighborhood Unity. The grand marshals will be the presidents of local civic associations: Joe DeFelice (Mayfair), Mary Benussi (Tacony) and Rich Frizell (Holmesburg). The rain date is Nov. 25. ••
