U. Holmesburg to discuss apartment building

The Upper Holmesburg Civic Association plans to discuss a zoning application for an apartment building at 8433 Torresdale Ave. during the civic group’s next monthly meeting on Dec. 20.

An attorney representing the landlord is expected to explain the application and answer questions. During the UHCA’s most recent meeting on Nov. 15, president Stan Cywinski reported that the site has about 22 rental units, but details of the zoning application were unknown.

In an unrelated zoning issue, Cywinski reported that the Holme Circle Civic Association is investigating the proposed sale of the Mount Nazareth convent at 2755 Holme Ave. The site has been a retirement home for the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, who recently vacated the property and moved into a newly constructed home nearby.

According to Holme Circle Civic Association leaders, the sisters hope to sell the older building to a company that will redevelop it as an apartment complex for seniors.

The next Upper Holmesburg meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. at St. Dominic’s Marian Hall, 8532 Frankford Ave. In addition to the agenda of business, members will hold their annual Christmas Party. ••
