The Philadelphia Parking Authority began full enforcement at three new red-light camera intersections in Northeast Philadelphia last Wednesday.
Motorists who disobey red lights at those intersections will be subject to $100 fines for each offense. The locations include Bustleton Avenue and Byberry Road; Academy Road and Grant Avenue; and Woodhaven and Knights roads.
At these intersections, signs are posted with the state-required warnings to alert motorists that they are approaching red-light cameras. The Parking Authority, which administers the red-light camera program in the city, has reported that all three intersections have been inspected and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Philadelphia Streets Department.
Cameras were installed at the three intersections in October. Motorists were given a 60-day grace period to familiarize themselves with the cameras, when no fines were issued to red-light violators.
There are now 24 red-light camera intersections with 108 individual cameras throughout Philadelphia. ••
