SUV strikes Frankford woman in N.J.

A flurry of violence in Trenton left a Frankford woman hospitalized in critical condition on Friday night, after an SUV driven by a gunshot victim struck her.

Carmen Wright, 23, and a 22-year-old woman were walking across East State Street in New Jersey’s capital city at about 11:14 p.m. when a Chevy Blazer driven by 22-year-old Hassan Allen struck both women, then overturned, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer article.

Wright underwent emergency surgery at a Trenton hospital, where she was diagnosed with brain swelling, internal bruises and multiple bone fractures, the Inquirer said. She was listed in stable but critical condition on Sunday. Wright’s companion was identified only as a Trenton resident and was listed in stable condition at the same hospital.

Authorities reportedly identified Allen as a Trenton resident who had been shot in the neck in the East State Street area and continued to drive his SUV until he struck the women, crashed and lost consciousness. He was pronounced dead at a Trenton hospital shortly after the crash.

Around the same time as the Allen shooting, two other men were wounded in the same vicinity, including a 52-year-old who was shot and killed while sitting on the front steps of a State Street residence, and an 18-year-old who showed up at a Trenton hospital with a wounded leg, according to the newspaper report. ••
