Frankford Parks elects new board

The Frankford Parks Group, a nonprofit dedicated to fixing up and maintaining some small neighborhood parks, elected a new board on Oct. 8, said treasurer and former president Kimberly Washington.

The group’s new president is Anthony Smith. Nafisah Lewis is vice president, and Charlene Walker is secretary.

Also, at the group’s Oct. 8 meeting, members announced plans for fall events.

The group will be conducting a Thanksgiving Food Drive along with the Frankford Business and Professional Association, Northeast EPIC Stakeholders and the Frankford Community Development Corporation.

Nonperishable food donations can be dropped off at CDC offices, 4900 Griscom St., weekdays during business hours until Nov. 20. The food, enough to help needy families have the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner, will be distributed on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Thriftway supermarket at Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street.

Washington, who also is the CDC’s executive director, said the CDC has gotten a grant to provide $200 in monthly stipends to help maintain the newly improved Womrath Park at the intersection of Frankford and Kensington avenues.

The next meeting will be 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at CDC offices, 4900 Griscom St. The organization goes on winter break December through March. ••
