Police are looking for a teen who assaulted a city police officer Jan. 16 in what became a confrontation between juveniles, the cop and school district police near Samuel Fels High School that resulted in four arrests.
According to Philadelphia police:
An officer was working on the 5700 block of Langdon Street during the 3 p.m. dismissal when he heard a whistle and saw a school official pointing toward a group of juveniles running from the school. A group of teenage boys approached and surrounded the cop as he tried to stop one of the juveniles, who then took off. The officer pursued the teen to the 800 block of Sanger Street. When the officer approached the youth, who again was with the same group of teenaged boys, the teen hit the officer twice, cutting his face. The boys all fled east on Sanger Street.
School police then assisted in chasing the teens. On the 900 block of Brill Street, the school district cops saw a large group of teenage boys protecting the teen who had assaulted the officer. While the city police officer tried to take the boy in custody, the large group attacked the school police. During that fight, the teen being sought managed to escape.
Arrested were a 15-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys. All were charged with aggravated assault, riot, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and fighting. The teen who got away was black and 15–17 years old. He was wearing a white thermal shirt and gray pants and was carrying a black backpack.
The officers who were attacked were treated for minor injuries.
Police did not say why the school official pointed to the boys running from the school. ••
