Senior artists sought for exhibit

Artists age 55 and older are invited to submit artwork for the 2014 “Celebrate Arts and Aging” festivities during Older Americans Month in May.

This is the 12th year for the celebration, formerly known as “Seniors Celebrate the Arts.” Senior artwork will be exhibited at three sites this year, including Center on the Hill…the place for active adults in Chestnut Hill; the Free Library of Philadelphia — Parkway Central; and Philadelphia Senior Center in Center City.

Photo or slides of artwork, accompanied by an art submission form, should be sent to Amanda Buonomo, PCA special events manager, at PCA, 642 N. Broad St., Phila., PA 19130 by Thursday, March 27. Artwork must have been created during the past three years. There is a limit of one submission per applicant. Widener honors local students

Widener University honored three local students with High School Leadership Awards during a ceremony at the National Constitution Center.

The local winners were Franklin Towne’s Ryan Dodd, Little Flower’s Maria Formoso and Nazareth Academy’s Mark Wilkinson.

NBC 10 reporter Tim Furlong was master of ceremonies.

The awards recognize students who demonstrate character and courage to enact positive change in their communities and schools.

Recipients will receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years if they enroll at Widener. ••

Temple operates thrift store

Temple Menorah Keneseth Chai, at 4301 Tyson Ave. in Tacony, operates a thrift shop. The shop is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
