Boy Scouts of America Troop 290 on Sunday afternoon hosted an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Sean P. Bowers, Matthew J. Keeley Jr. and John Paul Kuhar.

The trio, all 18 years old and inseparable friends, are now among a group of 79 Eagle Scouts from Troop 290, which is based at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church in Fox Chase. The tradition dates to 1949.

The teenagers received certificates, citations and other gifts from City Councilman Brian O’Neill, state Rep. Kevin Boyle, the Marine Corps League, the Knights of Columbus Father Thomas Ryan Council 5036 and Corp. John Loudenslager American Legion Post 366.

Bowers attended Joseph J. Greenberg Elementary School and Central High School. He joined Boy Scouts in first grade. He studies mechanical engineering at Widener University.

Keeley, the oldest of eight children, has been in Scouts for seven years. He graduated in June from Father Judge, where he was involved in numerous activities. He plans to enroll in college next fall.

Kuhar, the fifth of six children, is a graduate of Father Judge, where he was in the National Honor Society and a member of several theater and musical groups. He’s a stage crew volunteer for the Pennypack Park Music Festival. He majors in music education, with a focus on percussion, at West Chester University. He’s part of the drum line in the West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band. ••
