One injured in two shootings at Mayfair bar

One man was wounded by gunfire at a Cottman Avenue bar early Sunday. Another man surrendered later to detectives, and a third man was placed under arrest after allegedly driving to the shooting scene and exiting his vehicle with a gun in his hand.

A 27-year-old woman entered McGeehan’s on the 4400 block of Cottman Avenue, and ordered a drink, and was soon joined by her 21-year-old boyfriend, police said. The boyfriend tried to get the woman to leave. When she refused, he became angry and started yelling. Staff asked him to leave and closed the door behind him.

Several minutes later, a gun was fired through the bar’s glass door and struck a 23-year-old man in an arm. Another shot hit a mirror near the bartender. The shooter fled by the time police arrived.

While police investigating the shooting were still at the scene, a man police said was called to the bar drove up and exited his car with a .380-caliber gun in his hand.

The firearm was discharged once near where police and witnesses were standing. The man pointed the weapon at officers as he approached them, police said.

The cops told the man to drop the gun, but he refused. After a struggle, police disarmed him and took him into custody. A loaded .45-caliber firearm was found in his waistband. On Monday, police identified the man as John McGeehan, 55. He was charged with aggravated assault on police, a department spokeswoman said. No one else has been charged. ••
