Embracing a ‘City of Champions’

The mural celebrates championship moments in Philadelphia’s sports history.

Mayor Michael Nutter last week cut a ribbon unveiling a “City of Champions” mural on an exterior wall at Spike’s Trophies, home to the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.

Nutter was joined by artist David McShane and Jane Golden, executive director of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.

Franklin, the 76ers mascot, also joined in the festivities.

The mural celebrates championship moments in Philadelphia’s sports history.

Among those appearing on the mural are Chuck Bednarik, Steve Van Buren, Tom Gola, Wilt Chamberlain, Joe Frazier, Bobby Clarke, Mike Schmidt, Chase Utley, Julius Erving and the Stanley Cup.

Spike’s Trophies is located at 2701 Grant Ave. The Hall of Fame gallery is open for viewing Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ••
