Man arrested for illegal gambling machine

Emanuel Rodriguez-Rosario

Philadelphia police arrested a man for allegedly operating an illegal gambling machine inside a Lawncrest food market on April 1.

Police did not disclose the connection between Emanuel Rodriguez-Rosario, 25, and the DiJulia Mini Market on the 5900 block of Rising Sun Ave. Members of the the Citywide Vice Unit raided the shop on April 1 and seized what they described as a “mechanical coin push machine” containing an undetermined numbers of coins and “miscellaneous items.”

Coin push machines are common in arcades and casinos where users place tokens or coins into a slot to activate a mechanism that will push other coins or tokens forward into a dispenser slot. A portion of the coins never reach the player, falling instead into other slots where they collect inside the machine. The machine’s owner gets to keep the undistributed coins.

Rodriguez-Rosario, of the 3800 block of N. Darien St., was charged with violating the state’s illegal gambling device statute. ••
