Man indicted for cell phone store robberies

A federal grand jury has indicted a West Oak Lane man for robbing two cell phone stores at gunpoint in the Northeast and another in South Philly in April.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges against Edwin Jimerson on May 19. Philadelphia police arrested Jimerson, 24, of the 7900 block of Gilbert St., last month shortly after he allegedly held up the Metro PCS at 7219 Frankford Ave. on April 8. According to the federal prosecutor, Jimerson made off with $200, although his escape was short-lived.

Jimerson also stole $905 from the Metro PCS at 6342 Rising Sun Ave. on April 3, as well as $1,500 from the Metro PCS at 1414 Point Breeze Ave. on April 6. He was charged with three counts each of robbery interfering with interstate commerce and carrying a firearm in a crime of violence. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of 57 years and up to life in prison. ••
