Crime doesn’t seem to be adding up for the unknown burglar who has been targeting a plethora of Asian eateries in the Lower Northeast recently.
Despite all the time, effort and risk associated with the bandit’s eight break-ins in the area of Adams and Rising Sun avenues, he’s made off with not much more than $1,100 and some bottles of liquor, according to Philadelphia police. Meanwhile, detectives have compiled a large catalogue of surveillance video of him, as well as a blood sample.
Typically, the crook strikes late at night or pre-dawn when the businesses are closed. He has smashed windows and pried doors open to gain entry. Usually, he makes a bee line for the cash register with perhaps a brief stop at the liquor shelf before fleeing. Police have described the burglar as white, in his 20s and thin with a mustache, goatee and possibly a pony tail. He likes to wear jeans, black sneakers and gloves, along with hoods or T-shirts over his head to conceal his appearance.
The targeted businesses include Pho & More 2 restaurant at 551 Adams Ave. (June 11 and 13), Pho Ha restaurant at 575 Adams Ave. (June 13), K-Diner at 5717 Rising Sun Ave. (June 15), Pan Asian Buffet at 781 Adams Ave. (June 15), Harbor Seafood Garden at 5675 Rising Sun Ave. (June 17 and 26) and New Hunan Wok at 7860 Oxford Ave. (June 25).
