Gunman sought in post office holdup

Surveillance photo

A man with a striped shirt held up a Northeast Philadelphia post office at gunpoint last Thursday. Now police are trying to put him into a different type of striped clothing, a prison jumpsuit.

The robbery occurred at about 4:21 p.m. at 6382 Castor Ave. in the Oxford Circle section. The gunman jumped over the service counter, pointed a gun at the postal tellers and ordered them to hit the floor. He also demanded money from the registers. He obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and money orders and ran from the building southbound on Castor then eastbound on Robbins Avenue. No injuries were reported to police.

He was described as black, about 40 to 50 years old with a beard. He wore a bucket hat, short-sleeve shirt with horizontal stripes and tan cargo shorts. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information about the case. ••
