Holmesburg firehouse gets new ladder truck

The Philadelphia Fire Department delivered a new $985,000 tiller ladder truck to the Engine 36/Ladder 20 firehouse in Holmesburg on Saturday.

“The introduction of this new apparatus allows the department to further enhance its service delivery in the area of fire suppression,” said Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer. “And I’d like to recognize the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Fleet Management in assisting us to procure Ladder 20 for this purpose.”

Ladder 20’s new apparatus is among the most advanced and responsive vehicles of its type and provides the ultimate emergency response. Ladder 20 is equipped with a newly enhanced and wider 100-foot main ladder, special LED lighting capabilities and larger storage compartments. The apparatus meets all federal diesel emissions regulations and has superior features for firefighter safety including airbags for driver and officer, anti-rollover controls and anti-lock brakes.

Engine 36/Ladder 20 is at 7818 Frankford Ave. (near Hartel Avenue). A traditional housing ceremony will be held at a later date to be determined. ••
