Convicted felon faces new murder charges after shooting

Dennis

A convicted felon living in Frankford is facing a new murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed a man who was intervening in a disturbance on a Harrowgate street on April 10.

Eric Dennis, 25, of the 4800 block of Mulberry St., is accused of murdering Anthony Wilkins, 41. Police say that Wilkins’ juvenile son got involved in a fight on the 2000 block of Castor Ave. at about 9 p.m. that Sunday night. Someone summoned Wilkins to the scene, where a crowd of people had gathered.

When Wilkins tried to break up the fight, Dennis allegedly shot him twice in the head.

Police did not disclose a suspected motive for the slaying or what evidence linked Dennis to the crime.

Wilkins, of the 5900 block of N. Hutchinson St., was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died at 3:15 p.m. on April 11.

Court records show that Dennis served about seven years in state prison for robbery and was released in December. He is being held without bail pending an April 27 preliminary hearing. ••
