Toomey honored with Legislative Leader Award

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey last week was honored by the Humane Society of the United States with its Legislative Leader Award during a ceremony at the Pennsylvania SPCA, 350 E. Erie Ave.

The Humane Society of the United States presents annual awards to legislators for their leadership on protecting animals and sponsoring pro-animal legislation.

Kristen Tullo, state director of the Humane Society of the United States, and Pennsylvania SPCA CEO Jerry Buckley were on hand to honor Toomey as a champion of animal welfare.

Also last week, Toomey received the Philadelphia Coalition for Victim Advocacy Legislative Award during a tour of the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, 300 E. Hunting Park Ave.

Toomey was nominated by Chris Kirchner, of the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, to receive the award, given by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. He received the award for his work on the Crime Victims Fund, commitment to crime victims rights, efforts on child protection and support for Child Advocacy Centers across the state. ••
