Alleged drug dealer charged with murder after Wissinoming burglary, shooting

An alleged drug dealer shot and killed a man who, police believe, had tried to break into the dealer’s Wissinoming home on May 17.

Roberto Martinez, 29, of the 6000 block of Ditman St., is charged with murder, gun possession by a convicted felon, drug trafficking and related offenses for the slaying of Darryl Gordon, 28.

Gordon, of the 2300 block of Lambert St. in North Philadelphia’s Stanton section, and another unidentified man went to Martinez’ house at about 12:38 p.m. armed with a .40-caliber pistol and a crowbar, police said. They allegedly attempted to break into the rear of the house.

Martinez saw the intruders fleeing the house, police said, so he fired his own 9-millimeter pistol several times, striking Gordon once in the head. Paramedics pronounced Gordon dead at the scene within minutes. The other burglar remains at large.

Police searched Martinez’s house for evidence and stumbled upon multiple bags of marijuana and $6,000 cash, they said. He is held without bail and scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 8. ••
