One dead, one injured in Wissinoming shooting

A shooting on a Wissinoming street corner on Saturday night left a motorist dead and a second man critically wounded, police say.

The gunfire erupted at about 10:17 p.m. on the 6200 block of Ditman St. When police arrived, they found Esdras Otniel Arias, 34, of the 7000 block of Castor Ave. in Castor Gardens, slumped in the driver’s seat of a 2007 Nissan Altima that was stationary with the engine running at the intersection of Ditman Street and Devereaux Avenue. Arias had a gunshot wound of the head and was unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police found the second victim, a 42-year-old man, lying in the street on the 4600 block of Devereaux. He had wounds of the back, shoulder and chest and was taken in critical condition to Aria Health’s Torresdale campus.

There have been no arrests in the case. Police have released no suspect descriptions. A motive is not known. Call 215–686–3334 or dial 911 to report information. ••
