Teenager struck and killed by Amtrak train

An Amtrak train struck and killed a 17-year-old girl in Torresdale in the midst of afternoon rush hour last Friday.

Police say that the Amtrak Keystone service train №651 was traveling southbound near the Linden Avenue overpass at about 5:45 p.m. when it struck the girl. The location is just west of State Road. It is unknown why the victim was on the tracks.

The train continued southbound before stopping near the 8200 block of State Road behind Holmesburg Prison. The victim’s body was found where the train came to rest. Police did not release her identity.

The Keystone service connects New York City to Harrisburg via Philadelphia. The southbound train would have stopped at Cornwells Heights. It was due to stop again at North Philadelphia. There were 391 passengers on the train, who were transferred to another train to continue to their destinations. No other injuries were reported. ••
