Krewstown Road Festival set to offer historic tours

The Krewstown Road Festival won’t just bring the house down — it’ll bring the entire street down, too.

The first-ever open road festival in the area will take place Sunday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone is invited to enjoy exhibits, tours and presentations in a celebration of history and nature.

It will take place between Algon and Bloomfield avenues. Sections of the road will be closed to traffic 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day. Most events will happen near the Pennepack Baptist Church or in the parking lot close to the Krewstown Road Bridge.

Activities include tours of the church, which will celebrate its 329-year anniversary. Other tours will include the Krewstown Road Bridge, an S-shaped structure that gives a unique view without traffic zooming by. Another tour is a nearby graveyard with tombstones that date back to the Revolutionary War.

“There’s a lot of history right there you would never know,” said Jack O’Hara, president of the Greater Bustleton Civic League.

There will be guided walking tours of the park packed with history, as well as mountain bike rides. Presentations will be given by woodworkers and blacksmiths. Boy Scout troops will lead a parade.

The church will supply refreshments and will be accepting donations.

The event is free and open to all.

Church services will still be held at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. that day.
