The Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association is putting the finishing touches on plans for its annual Northeast Celebration.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Max Myers Playground, 1601 Hellerman St.
Catholic Community Services will donate 200 schoolbags.
A disc jockey will entertain the crowd.
Other participants and activities will include the Elmwood Zoo, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Franklin Institute, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the Clay Studio, the Insectarium, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, a magician, caricature artists, clowns, carnival games, face painting, spin art, flu shots and blood pressure monitoring.

A Northeast Regional Library patron complained that a neighbor on Oakland Street puts out cones to prevent library-goers from parking on the block. The individual said library patrons who park their cars in the Sears lot risk getting towed.
Johnson said placing cones to prevent parking on a block is illegal, and that police officers can issue a ticket.
Johnson encouraged non-emergency calls to 311. Callers can remain anonymous, but she suggests giving contact information — even if using a fake name — to follow the progress of inspectors.
L&I, Johnson said, promotes compliance. She also urged people to have working batteries in their smoke detectors and to have a working carbon monoxide detector near their bedroom.

• Northeast Naturally Occurring Retirement Community will host a lunch with City Councilman Al Taubenberger (R-at large) on Monday, Aug. 28, at KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave. Lunch is served at noon, and Taubenberger will speak at 12:30.
• United Friends Soccer Club, based at Max Myers, welcomes registrations from boys and girls ages 5–16. The cost is $30 per month. Call the playground at 215–685–1242.
