The Northeast Times would like to congratulate the following college graduates, students who were named to their school’s dean’s list, and area residents who recently received special honors.

Loyola University Maryland recognized the following students from the class of 2017 at its commencement exercises held at Royal Farms Arena in downtown Baltimore: Matthew McIntyre, degree in political science; Nicole DeVincentis, degree in communication/writing; and Edward McLaughlin, degree in engineering.

The Alvernia University class of 2017 earned associate, bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. Local graduates were James Michael Feeney, degree in liberal studies, minor in philosophy; Kevin E. MacFarland, degree in early childhood education pre-K-4 with special education pre-K-8; Virginia Lynn Thress, degree in management and human resource management cum laude; and Daphnee Sondra Lagredelle, social work degree.

Six local residents were among more than 1,600 students who were named to the University of Scranton’s dean’s list. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better to make the dean’s list.

The students are Noelle C. Niessen, a senior biology major; Madeline Chiardio, a senior occupational therapy major; Natalia Kucharska, a senior exercise science major; Stas W. Postowski, a freshman marketing major; Phoebe Thomas, a freshman marketing major; and Erik T. Rispo, a senior accounting major.

Diana Lynn Smith graduated with a degree in psychology from James Madison University during commencement exercises. Smith was among more than 4,300 students who received undergraduate, master’s, educational specialist and doctoral degrees.

University of the Sciences recognized graduates as part of the university’s 196th commencement celebration.

The following local students graduated: Noel Abraham (doctor of pharmacy); Joseph Duffield (cum laude, chemistry); Milie George (doctor of pharmacy); Richard Howley (pharmacology and toxicology, Johnson & Johnson Innovation Award for having the highest grade point average in the final two years of the program); Svyatoslav Kredens (doctor of pharmacy); Diana Linn (cum laude, master of occupational therapy); Aisha Malik (master’s in physician assistant studies); Bryan Okolo (pharmacology and toxicology); Nicholas Petroski (cum laude, doctor of physical therapy); Dominic Pryor (biochemistry); Jobin Regi (doctor of physical therapy); Alicia Samuel (MBA in pharmaceutical and healthcare business); Doniya Varghese (doctor of pharmacy); Stephen Varghese (summa cum laude, doctor of physical therapy); Remya Vazhel (MBA in pharmaceutical and healthcare business); Thomas Venditti (summa cum laude, pharmaceutical and healthcare business, recipient of the Alumni Association Awards presented to the graduating student from each college with the highest grade point average); Joseph Woltemate (cum laude, master of occupational therapy); Ada Wu (doctor of pharmacy).

More than 1,660 students have been named to the dean’s list at Kutztown University. To be eligible for the dean’s list, an undergraduate student must be registered for at least 12 credits and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60.
