5K run and walk to be held on Sunday

The Delaware River City Corporation will hold a 5K run and walk on Sunday, Oct. 8, starting at the Frankford Boat Launch, along the Delaware River, just south of Cheltenham Avenue.

The cost is $25 for adult runners, $10 for runners age 13–17 and $20 for all walkers. All runners and walkers 13 and under can take part for free. Registration on the day of the event goes from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. The run starts at 9 a.m. Go to runtheday.com/register/detail/greenway-5K ••

Normandy Civic meeting on Thursday

The Normandy Civic Association will meet on the following upcoming dates: Oct. 5, Dec. 5, Feb. 1, April 3 and June 7. The meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the SPIN Community & Fitness Center, 10980 Norcom Road. ••

Donate to hurricane victims

The Bustleton Bengals will collect donations for victims of recent hurricanes on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their Homecoming football games at President Street and Conwell Avenue.

Items accepted include clothing, shoes, toys, dolls, stuffed animals, bicycles, pocketbooks, backpacks, blankets, sheets, curtains, tablecloths, pillows, towels, small rugs, quilts, comforters, pots, pans and action figures.

All donations must be in a tied trash bag. The Bengals will receive payment based on the weight of donations. Anyone who cannot drop off a donation can call Chris Tarducci at 215–906–8179 for possible pickup.

Pet fundraiser scheduled for Saturday

Northeast Animal Rescue will hold its fifth annual Pastabilities for Pets on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Georgine’s, 1320 Newport Road in Bristol.

The cost is $35, or $10 for ages 6–10. Kids under 6 are admitted free. Admission includes dinner, salad, dessert and soft drinks. There will be a gift basket raffle, 50/50, door prizes, DJ and dancing.

School fair on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Prep

Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia and Great Philly Schools will sponsor the Philly K-8 School Fair on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Prep, 1733 W. Girard Ave. The fair is free and open to the public, with workshops and children’s activities.

Guests will meet with representatives from more than 100 public, private, and charter schools to learn about kindergarten, elementary and middle school options in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. ••

Open house Sunday at Glen Foerd

Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Ave., will host an open house on Sunday, Oct. 8, from noon to 6 p.m.

FOP to host designer bag bingo

A Designer Bag Bingo event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8 at the FOP Headquarters, 11630 Caroline Road.

Holy Family flea market is Oct. 7

Holy Family University’s Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter is hosting its fall flea market on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the university’s main campus, 9801 Frankford Ave. (at Grant Avenue).

The day’s activities will include a silent auction, food concession, free face painting for kids, raffle prizes and a 50/50. Flea market vendor spaces are $15, or two for $25. Proceeds will go to Spring Break Experience and Bucks County Habitat for Humanity.

Fundraising flea market on Saturday

A flea market will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bethel Church parking lot, 903 Franklin Mills Circle. More than 70 families will participate. The day will include a bake sale.

Sabatina’s senior expo on Oct. 6

Local senior citizens are invited to attend state Sen. John Sabatina Jr.’s annual senior expo, which takes place on Friday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory, 2700 Southampton Road (at Roosevelt Boulevard).

There will be representatives from city, state and federal agencies and community organizations, including the Pennsylvania Lottery, state Department of Revenue, American Red Cross, various local hospitals and other health and housing organizations.

Taste of Bustleton is Saturday at BVM

Residents can now register for free community yard tree

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, in partnership with the Fairmount Park Conservancy and TD Bank, announced that the Somerton Civic Association and MaST Community Charter School will receive a Community Yard Tree Giveaway Grant.

The grant is worth 50 trees and $500.

John Swoyer, CEO for MaST, said, “I am very proud to be partnering with the Somerton Civic Association and its members to play an active role in distributing the awarded trees. Our students and local families will appreciate the opportunity to add to the green effort in the community and bring about yet another improvement in the local households around the area.”

“We’re thankful that TreePhilly and its partners have given us the chance to distribute these trees,” said civic association president Chris Bordelon. “Somerton’s greenery helps to give it a distinctive appearance as a Philadelphia neighborhood. St. Jerome senior citizens club taking a trip

The St. Jerome senior citizens club will be taking a trip to Pine Creek Gorge, sometimes referred to as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. The trip is scheduled for Oct. 9–11.
