31 volunteers removed cooking pots, cabinet doors and handcuffs from Pennypack Park.
Thirty-one volunteers recently cleaned the area of Pennypack Park around Frankford and Solly avenues.
The volunteers removed 63 bags of trash and four bags of cans.
Here are some of the items removed: tires, milk crates, Styrofoam coolers, chairs, blankets, utensils, cooking pots, cabinet doors, luggage, a backpack, a toilet seat, a VHS tape, clothes, food, a hairbrush, sneakers, a watch, a basketball, 19 Mealey’s Furniture signs, a Coldwell Banker Realty sign, a missing poster for Mr. Fox (a dog who was found), handcuffs and a doll.
The volunteers were Michael McKee, Liam McKee, Mike Cappo, Michael Cappo, Drew DiPietro, Dave DiPietro, Ryan Lienert, Gloria El and her granddaughter Kadae, college students Meredith Cohen and Katya Rebensky, Kathy Volack, St. Luke’s United Church of Christ Rev. Terri McNamara, Marian Rossi, Cookie Cantinelli, Patrick and Lisa Plunkett, Jason Trenchard, Robert McMunn, Kenneth Larsen, Alan Kaminsky, Jason McConomy, Roland Williams, Ralph Smith, Tim McAndrews, Edward Davis, Joyce Ferrero, George Scholl, Audrey Walmsley, Nance Kerns and Harry Patoma.
The final cleanup of 2017 is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sandy Run park entrance (Ryan Avenue and Sandyford Road, next to Austin Meehan Middle School). Friends of Pennypack Park will bring the gloves, grabbers, pretzels, water and cookies. Volunteers are asked to bring bug spray and sunscreen and wear long pants and appropriate footwear. All volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Community service hours are available.
