On Monday, Archbishop Charles Chaput celebrated his annual Christmas Mass for inmates at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, 7901 State Road.

There were approximately 70 inmates, PDP staff and the Spanish choir from Visitation BVM, 300 E. Lehigh Ave., in attendance for the Mass.

Chaput tailored his homily to talk about God’s love for all of his children, including those imprisoned.

Chaput asked for a show of hands for those who are Christian and those who want to be saved by God, with most inmates raising their hands for the latter.

Chaput compared God’s love for them to the love those in the room feel for their spouses.

“God is infatuated with you,” he said. “God loves you and he desires your friendship.”

Chaput went on to tell them he will be celebrating his yearly Christmas Mass at Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul. He assured them he will talk about his visit to CFCF and remind them that they are “our brothers, as much as anyone else in the church.” ••
