Members decided not to oppose one issue and heard about another.
The Holmesburg Civic Association considered two zoning issues at its recent meeting.
Members voted 8–0, with one abstention, to not oppose the expansion of a deck and the rebuilding of stairs at a home on the 3300 block of Ashville St. The owners, who bought the house in July, will appear in front of the Zoning Board of Adjustment on Feb. 14.
Members also heard about a property at 8128 Rowland Ave. that was bought in July. The five-unit residence includes an efficiency that the new owner wants to legalize. That unit had been a beauty salon until 1992. Civic members will discuss the issue further at next month’s meeting, which is the night before the owner’s Feb. 14 zoning hearing.
In other news from the Jan. 9 meeting:
• Joe Hansbury, the 8th Police District community relations officer, said the Police District Advisory Council will hold its second annual winter bash on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, 11630 Caroline Road. There will be more than 50 vendors and crafters, food, a disc jockey, raffle baskets and a 50/50.
Hansbury said the district’s officer of the year will be announced on Sunday, March 25, at the Union League Golf Club at Torresdale. Tickets cost $30.
Hansbury said the district’s Easter egg hunt will be on March 28.
• The civic association’s new co-vice presidents are Cheryl Molle and Luka Lakuriqi, former executive director of the Mayfair Community Development Corporation.
• State Rep. John Taylor, who is not seeking another term, has closed his district office at 4117 Longshore Ave. Aide Mia Hylan said constituents can visit the office at 4725 Richmond St. in Bridesburg.
• Holmesburg Civic Association will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 7:15 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center. ••
