Local civic group hopes to end division

A special meeting was held to discuss Take Back Your Neighborhood’s “organizational disarray.”

Take Back Your Neighborhood will meet on Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at Max Myers Playground, 1601 Hellerman St.

The group held a special meeting on Feb. 6 at Nick’s Roast Beef to develop a plan of action, declaring that TBYN is in “organizational disarray.”

In a Jan. 14 email, Sharyn Solomon, declaring herself executive director, told Lewis Schiffreen and Paul Kaplan that their leadership positions have been terminated.

There is also infighting over the bylaws. Also, some members do not believe it is appropriate to hold leadership meetings in the ground level space of Solomon’s home, a space also used as a campaign headquarters for her son, state Rep. Jared Solomon.

The group is also considering a name change to Castor Gardens Civic Association, and members appear to be leaning toward discontinuing or scaling back the annual Northeast Celebration.

Members praised Jared Solomon for starting and growing the group and Sharyn Solomon for working hard to plan monthly meeting agendas. Campaign aide Adam Erickson represented Jared Solomon at the meeting. Sharyn Solomon was invited but did not attend. She did not return a call for comment.

Meanwhile, the Campaign for Working Families is offering free tax preparation through April 17 at 2113 Cottman Ave., near the Gap Factory. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. ••
