Irish Night in Pennypack Park

The Pennypack Park Music Festival will continue on Wednesday, July 11, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. with a performance by Jamison as part of Irish Night. Concerts take place at the Ed Kelly Amphitheater, near the park entrance at Welsh Road and Cresco Avenue.

The rest of the lineup is Romeo Delight, tribute to Van Halen (July 18); Hand Me Down World, tribute to the Guess Who (July 25); Idol Kings, tribute to Journey (Aug. 8); Black Dog, tribute to Led Zeppelin (Aug. 15); LeCompt (Aug. 22); and Think Pink Floyd, tribute to Pink Floyd (Sept. 5).

Piano concert to be held on Saturday

The Multicultural Arts Exchange and GroupMuse will present pianist Lance Wiseman in concert on Saturday, July 14, at 6 p.m. at the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, 8046 Frankford Ave.

The event is BYOB and for people 21 and older.

Lane restrictions on Academy Road

Daytime lane restrictions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, July 13, on Academy Road between Knights Road and the Interstate 95 Interchange, for line striping.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the highway with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. ••

Arts celebration Saturday in Tacony

The Tacony LAB Community Arts Center, 6918 Torresdale Ave., will host a free Summertime Social on Saturday, July 14, from noon to 5 p.m.

The afternoon will include a giant painting collaboration, live music by Italian gypsy-rock singer/songwriter Jacopo de Nicola, an exhibition of the work of LAB student artists and a discussion about resident artist Jackie Neale’s Tacony Oral History Project.

Nature and history walk on Sunday

Friends of Pennypack Park will hold its monthly nature and history walk on Sunday, July 15, at 1 p.m.

Participants will meet at the guardhouse at the entrance to the parking lot on Pine Road. The walk will focus on Native American life along the Pennypack in ancient times. There will also be a search for artifacts in creek gravel drifts.

Crafts with a Cop event is Thursday

The 8th Police District will host Crafts with a Cop on Thursday, July 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at district headquarters, 3100 Red Lion Road. To reserve a spot, call Police Officer Rosati at 215–686–3080. ••

Sunday fitness class at Glen Foerd

Certified fitness instructor Carolyn Breyer will hold a Be Fit Philly open-air fitness class on Sunday, July 15, at 9:30 a.m. at Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Ave. All fitness levels and ages are welcome. The cost is $12. For information, visit the Be Fit Philly page on Facebook. ••

Remembering Cpl. Loudenslager

Cpl. John Loudenslager American Legion Post 366 will hold a remembrance ceremony for Cpl. John Loudenslager on the 100-year anniversary of his death.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, July 16, at 6 p.m. at Lions Park, 7976 Oxford Ave. The event will take place rain or shine. Loudenslager was 19 when he was killed in World War I on July 16, 1918.

AARP offers driver safety program

AARP offers a driver safety program to assist “mature” motorists in updating their driving knowledge and skill.

The Smart DriverTEK program is being presented in a number of cities, including Philadelphia. The AARP has developed a 90-minute presentation on vehicle safety features by assisting people in understanding what these new technologies are designed to do, how they work and how to use them. These features can include smart headlights, reverse monitoring systems, blind spot warning systems, lane departure warning systems, forward collision warning and emergency braking, drowsy driver alerts, assistive parking and adaptive cruise control.

Interactive workshops will take place on Wednesday, July 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Villages of Pine Valley’s clubhouse, 8540 Verree Road, and on Saturday, July 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital’s main building, Red Lion and Knights roads.

Music and drama camp in Crescentville

Crescentville United Methodist Church, 412 E. Sentner St., will hold its annual music and drama camp from July 15–20, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The camp is for kids in kindergarten (must be 5 by Sept. 1) through recent eighth-grade graduates. Participants will learn and perform a children’s musical. The camp will feature Bible stories, T-shirts, crafts, songs and snacks. The cost is $5.

Frankford Fitness Series underway

The Frankford Fitness Series offers yoga for beginners and zumba classes on four upcoming Saturdays.

The classes will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Frankford Pause Park, 4667 Paul St.

Zumba classes will take place on July 14 and Aug. 25.

Yoga classes will take place on July 28 and Aug. 11.

Participants are asked to bring their own mats. ••

Concert Thursday night at Glen Foerd

Glen Foerd on the Delaware, 5001 Grant Ave., will host a riverside concert on Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m., featuring the Rendition Jazz Band.

Kat and the Hooligans will entertain on Aug. 9.

Boulevard lane closures through Friday

Roosevelt Boulevard motorists will encounter single lane closures in the inner and outer lanes at the Grant Avenue and Red Lion Road intersections from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, July 13, for Americans with Disabilities Act curb ramp installations.

In addition, PennDOT said, periodic right lane closures are planned on Grant Avenue and Red Lion Road at the Boulevard. ••

Movies and discussion at KleinLife

KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave., will continue its Lifelong Learning summer special film series on Tuesday, July 17, with A Late Quartet. The public is invited to participate with members. The movie will be followed by a discussion led by Moylan Mills, professor emeritus of integrative arts at Penn State. Cost is $13.
