Fashion show Thursday night in Mayfair

Glamour on the Avenue will showcase style and talent from local businesses.

The Mayfair Business Improvement District produced a successful arts festival and NFL Draft party in April, and executive director Marc Collazzo expects the BID’s next event to be just as good.

On Thursday, July 19, the BID will hold Glamour on the Avenue, a fashion show from 7 to 9 p.m. at Frankford, Cottman and Ryan avenues.

“It’s pretty exciting for us,” Collazzo said. “To my knowledge, it’s never been done in Northeast Philadelphia. I think it will be our biggest event yet.”

The idea for the fashion show came from Jay Pross, owner of Art History 101, a thriving T-shirt company at 7045 Frankford Ave.

Pross will have professional models wearing Art History 101 gear.

“We’ll have summer, fall, hoodies, stuff like that,” he said.

Pross said he knows people who will be traveling from far to attend the show for what organizers hope is the biggest turnout at the intersection since an estimated 30,000 people celebrated the Eagles winning the Super Bowl.

“We might not be able to match the Eagles crowd, but that’s OK,” said Collazzo, who is planning the event with marketing pro Randi Sherwood.

Christine Bearden, owner of Creations Unisex Salon, 6632 Frankford Ave. (at Fanshawe Street), will send clients strutting down the runway wearing clothing from Domenico’s Formal Wear and Dress Up Time, both staples of Frankford Avenue.

“We’ll have a little bit of everything,” said Michael Maglio, a member of the family-owned clothing shops.

The InkWell 215, a tattoo shop, will have five models displaying their body art.

In all, there will be about 50 models, ranging in age from 9 to 30-somethings. Creations will provide hair and makeup services and have stylists on site for touch-ups. Among the models will be Natalie DiDonato, of VH1’s Mob Wives.

Even World of Animals will have six dogs as models.

“It will be comic relief,” said general manager Connie Griffin.

The evening will include rap songs by Jarell K, fashions from Infinity Jewelers and flowers prepared by Antoniette Montgomery, owner of Torresdale Flower Shop.

The night will also have vendors, including Grey Lodge Pub, Gino’s Pizza Cafe, Oteri’s Bakery, The Halal Guys, Frank’s Steaks & Burgers, Factory Donuts and Rita’s Water Ice.

Guest hosts Gillie Da King and Wallo267 will sing, and DJ Alamo will play music.

Sponsors are the Mayfair BID, City Councilman Bobby Henon, Dunphy Motors, goPuff and Republic Bank.

The rain date is Thursday, July 26.

Earlier in the night, from 5 to 7, the Mayfair Night Market will be open. Crafts, candles, clothing and food will be for sale. ••
