Scholars: Aug. 8

The Northeast Times would like to congratulate the following college graduates, students who were named to their school’s dean’s list, and area residents who recently received special honors.

The Alvernia University Class of 2018 included Remi Joy Adekanbi (healthcare science, summa cum laude), John Thomas Dlugosz (nursing), Victoria Lynn Gowland (Master of Science in occupational therapy and Bachelor of Science in health science, cum laude), Lauren Nicole Haber (Doctor of Physical Therapy), Daphnee Sondra Lagredelle (Master of Arts in leadership for sustainable communities), Maria Claudia Mitchell (behavioral health, summa cum laude).

Collin Wiercinski was named to the Merrimack College (Massachusetts) dean’s list.

Elghali Shegefat earned a master’s of science degree in human services from Springfield College (Massachusetts).

Kyshon Jackson made the dean’s commendation list for outstanding academic achievement at Gettysburg College. Students with a quality point average in the range of 3.300 to 3.599 for a semester’s work are placed on the college’s dean’s commendation list.

Nikki Michalowski, an Archbishop Ryan High School graduate and member of the softball team at Hofstra University, has been named to dean’s list.

Widener University conferred degrees to more than 800 undergraduates. Local graduates were Seleena Aby (nursing), Breanna Behr (mechanical engineering), Thomas Brody (allied health), Jared Coulter (political science), James Feeley (management), Stephen Finocchiaro (chemical engineering), Erin Hatfield (nursing), Megan Hitchner (allied health), Michael Kowalski (professional and applied studies), Jeremy Lahn (psychology), Stephanie Laurancy (international relations), Helena Lee (allied health), Bridget Leonard (biomedical engineering), Angelique Nelson (nursing), Christopher Palys (management), Jeana Roman (radiologic technology), Alyssa Salerno (nursing), Michele Stampone (allied health), Elizabeth Winski (biology), Elizabeth Yeager (biomedical engineering), Oksana Yurchyshyn (nursing).

Patricia Kalesse has been named to Siena College dean’s list. To be named to the dean’s list, a student’s grade point average for the semester must be 3.5 to 3.89.

As part of Elizabethtown College’s Class of 2018, Erich Holtzer graduated with a degree in engineering. This was Elizabethtown College’s 115th commencement ceremony and featured Kwame Anthony Akroma-Ampim Kusi Appiah, weekly columnist for The New York Times Magazine, as the speaker.

Kevin William Charyszyn, a sophomore majoring in business studies, was named to the dean’s list at Clarkson University (New York). Dean’s list students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.

Widener University Commonwealth Law School announced that Marjorie Moreno was named to the dean’s list.

Wilkes University Provost Anne Skleder announced the dean’s list, which included Shayna Fehrle. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must obtain a minimum 3.5 grade point average and carry at least 12 credits.

Kayla McNamee participated as a member of Alvernia’s Athletic Training Student Association in 2017–18 while studying athletic training. McNamee is a graduate of Nazareth Academy. ATSA is an organization that lets Alvernia students work on different skills, connect with other athletic training students and provide opportunities to network with athletic training professionals by sending members to different conferences, symposiums and meetings. ••
