A ceremony will take place on Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, from noon to 1 p.m. at the World War I memorial at the intersection of Cottman, Oxford and Rising Sun avenues. The service will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The public is invited.

The ceremony will feature a fife and drums parade, a Boy Scouts Troop 160 parade, an invocation, wreath presentation, the playing of Taps and addresses by historian Fred Moore, state Rep. Jared Solomon and City Councilman Al Taubenberger.

Also, Troop 160 will discuss the history of its care for the memorial, which was dedicated in 1928.

Troop 160 has been caring for the memorial since then in preparation for annual ceremonies on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Community activist Pam Baranackie and Taubenberger’s office are working to power wash the memorial and replace its lighting. ••
