Police looking for robber who assaulted two people at Wissinoming store

Investigators are searching for a man who assaulted an employee and a customer while trying to rob a store on Torresdale Avenue.

Police are looking for a man who assaulted two people while attempting to rob a store in Wissinoming earlier this month.

Authorities said the suspect entered Zeng’s Grocery, 5802 Torresdale Ave., around 3:30 p.m. Dec. 1. He went behind the counter and assaulted a 45-year-old female cashier as she tried to open the cash register, police said.

A customer tried to intervene, and the man assaulted the customer as well before fleeing the store, according to police.

The suspect was described by authorities as a black man between the ages of 50 and 60. He is 6-foot tall, weighs around 200 pounds and has a gray beard. He was wearing a black jacket, black pants and a black hat during the incident.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153/3154. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Authorities urged residents who see this suspect not to approach him and to call 911 immediately. ••
