Suspect arrested in fatal stabbing of Millbrook man

A 40-year-old man died after being stabbed in the neck Dec. 28 inside a home on Lardner Street.

Robert Merk, 24, of the 6300 block of Eastwood Street, was arrested Saturday, Dec. 29, in connection to the Dec. 28 stabbing of Robert Hicks. Merk was charged with murder, criminal trespass and possession of an instrument of crime, police said.

Merk is being held without bail at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, and a preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 16.

Court records indicate Merk was sentenced to two-and-a-half to five years in prison in 2015 after pleading guilty to aggravated assault stemming from an arrest in 2013.

A 40-year-old man died after being stabbed in the neck Friday, Dec. 28, inside a house on the 2100 block of Lardner Street in the Lower Northeast.

Officers responded to the scene around 11 p.m. and found Robert Hicks, of the 4100 block of Whiting Road in Millbrook, suffering from a stab wound, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, according to police.

A suspect is in custody, but authorities declined to release further information.

Homicide detectives are actively investigating the fatal stabbing. ••
