The Archdiocese of Philadelphia recently received an allegation that the Rev. Steven J. Marinucci, who is assigned to St. Matthew Parish, sexually abused a minor in the late 1970s.

It is the first allegation of this kind lodged against him.

As a result, the matter has been referred to law enforcement.

Marinucci has denied the allegation. He’s been placed on administrative leave and will not be able to exercise his ministry publicly, present himself publicly as a priest or be present in any parishes or schools.

The information was shared with parishioners at St. Matthew at all Masses last weekend. Marinucci has been at the Mayfair parish since 2010.

A church investigation will be launched after law enforcement concludes its work.

Marinucci, 71, was ordained in 1974. He has served at the following Northeast parishes and schools: St. Bernard (1974-78), St. Hubert High School (1975-79), St. Bartholomew (1978-83) and Little Flower High School (1980-83). ••
