Free trees on Saturday
The Somerton Civic Association and MaST Community Charter School will host their fourth community yard tree giveaway on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at MaST, 1800 Byberry Road.
Twelve kinds of trees are available, 100 in all.
At the giveaway, TreePhilly will offer planting and care demonstrations, mulch and educational materials.

Book review Wednesday night
The Marlyn Fein Chapter, Fox Chase Cancer Center, is having a book review on Wednesday, March 27, at Maggio’s Restaurant, 400 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, beginning at 6 p.m. The book is The Great Alone, by Kristin Hannah. The cost of the event is $35, which includes dinner and dessert.

Mosaic art class starts Monday
KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave., is offering a four-week mosaic art class for adults beginning on Monday, April 1, from 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. The public is invited to participate. The classes will run on four successive Mondays.

History fair at Cannstatter’s
Friends of Northeast Philadelphia History and the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will present the Northeast Philadelphia History Fair on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road.
Admission is free. There will be historic displays, presentations on local history and books, prints, photographs and other historical items.

Discussion on Social Security office closing
Holme Circle Civic Association will meet on Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at St. Jerome School Hall (basement), Colfax and Stamford streets.
The guest speaker will be Annamarie Feeney, who handles Social Security matters for U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle. Feeney will discuss the upcoming closing of the Social Security office at 2373 Welsh Road.

NFL combine is Saturday
On Saturday, March 30, from noon to 3 p.m., the Mayfair Business Improvement District will partner with sports radio WIP and Einstein Healthcare Network on the first Mayfair NFL Combine and Community Health Day at the Mayfair Community Center, 2990 St. Vincent St.
Families will receive medical tips and guidance from Einstein physicians, while the kids take part in a mini-NFL combine with Philadelphia Eagles alumni A.J. Feeley and Jon Ritchie.
Moreover, the “Go Birds” Saturday radio program will broadcast live from 1 to 3 p.m.
The afternoon will feature a 40-yard dash, three-cone drill, standing long jump, a pushup challenge, a 20-yard shuttle run, vertical jump and field goal kick.
There will be a quarterback challenge against Feeley, blood sugar testing, nutritional tips, the WIP prize wheel, pizza and water. ••

Clothing drive to benefit cancer care
The Marlyn Fein Chapter, Fox Chase Cancer Center, is running a clothing drive on April 6.
The dropoff location is 604 Township Line Road, Cheltenham (near the intersection of Laurel Avenue and Church Road).
Gently used clothing, accessories, books and small trinkets in bags or boxed will be accepted.
Participation helps support cancer research and patient care at Fox Chase Cancer Center. ••
Help for Spanish speakers seeking GED
The Northeast Learning Center, 7222 Castor Ave., is accepting applications for a new program to help Spanish-speaking people get their high school equivalency diploma.
This six-week, part-time evening program will teach students the five subjects they need to pass tests to get their official state-approved equivalency diploma.
Students will learn grammar, writing, math, social studies and science skills to help them pass the tests. The tests are given in Spanish.
The cost of the program, including registration, book, materials and 45 hours of instruction, is $199.99.

Auditions for music program
The nonprofit Share the Spotlight is holding auditions for musicians in grades six through 12 for a tuition-free summer rock music program.
Auditions take place at Keystone Soundworks, 4900 Longshore Ave., beginning on April 5. The deadline to sign up is April 1.
To audition, students can learn any song by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Aretha Franklin on guitar, bass, drum set, keyboard or vocals.
They should have some experience on their instrument and be highly motivated to practice and learn new parts.
The program will meet twice a week through June and July and perform an end-of-the-season show in a professional venue.
