Nature and history walk on Sunday

Friends of Pennypack Park will hold its monthly nature and history walk on Sunday, July 28, at 1 p.m.

Walkers will meet at the lower Verree Road parking lot. The walk will be through shady woodlands to the old Slater’s Sawmill bridge, visiting many natural points of interest along the way. It will be about 1¼ miles, partly on rough trail.

Feast day Mass Saturday at St. Joachim

St. Joachim Church, 1527 Church St., will host a St. Joachim feast day Mass on Saturday, July 27, at 4 p.m.

The Mass fulfills a Catholic’s weekly obligation.

The Rev. Tom Higgins will celebrate the Mass. John McCabe will be the cantor, with Sister Rita Ann Keller, IHM as the organist.

Those at the Mass will be able to meet the new postulants of the Padre Pio Friary: Connor, Daniel, Inaky, Isaac, John, Jose, Ryan and Samuel. ••

West Catholic golden girls celebrating

The deadline is July 31 to make a reservation to attend the 50th reunion of the West Catholic Girls High School class of 1969.

The reunion will be on Sept 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at Drexelbrook, 4700 Drexelbrook Drive in Drexel Hill. The cost is $69.

Reading tutors needed in Philadelphia

The AARP Foundation Experience Corps will hold information sessions at 9:30 a.m. at 1500 John F. Kennedy Blvd., third-floor conference (2 Penn Center), on the following dates: July 29 and Aug. 9, 16, 19 and 30.

The public is invited to learn about volunteer opportunities to tutor and mentor kindergarten through grade three students who need literacy support with reading in Philadelphia.

The program is open to people 50 and older who have a high school diploma or GED. The benefits include AmeriCorps opportunities, training and monthly stipends.

Jehovah’s Witnesses holding convention

Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold a convention from July 26-28 at Temple University’s Liacouras Center, 1776 N. Broad St.

The theme is “Love Never Fails.”

The program will be tied into one of seven larger international conventions held in the United States. These larger international conventions will be hosting 35,000 foreign delegates coming from 105 countries.

Upcoming benefit for family with MDS

Ott’s Taekwon-Do will sponsor a Pizza Bowl on Saturday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at High Tides Restaurant and Bar, 1067 Totem Road, Bensalem.

Proceeds will benefit a father and his teenage daughter about to undergo treatments for myelodysplastic syndrome, a bone marrow failure disorder.

Organizers are asking for donations of gift cards, baskets, raffle items, money or anything to benefit the cause.
