Unity Cup soccer kicks off Friday at Northeast High

The fourth annual Philadelphia International Unity Cup, which consists of 52 adult men’s soccer teams, begins Friday night, Aug. 2, at Northeast High School, 1601 Cottman Ave.

The action had been set for James Ramp Playground, but a change was made after Ramp was severely damaged by Wednesday’s thunderstorms.

Pre-game festivities start at 6 p.m. They include children’s activities, face painting, a photo station, music and food. There will be an opening ceremony at 7 p.m.

Jamaica will face Italy at 8 p.m.

Admission to all games throughout the tournament are free.

Games will continue the rest of the month of August.

Here is this weekend’s schedule at Northeast:

• Saturday, Aug. 3: Noon: El Salvador vs. India; 2 p.m.: South Africa vs. Iran; 4 p.m. Sudan vs. Haiti; 6 p.m.: Venezuela vs. Bosnia; 8 p.m.: Honduras vs. Turkey.

• Sunday, Aug. 4: 10 a.m.: Senegal vs. Puerto Rico; noon: Guinea vs. Mali; 2 p.m.: Congo vs. Peru; 4 p.m.: Belize vs. Burkina Faso; 6 p.m.: Togo vs. Vietnam; 8 p.m.: Kenya vs. Guatemala.

Games will also be played at James Ramp Playground, at Crispin and Stanwood streets in Holmesburg; Hunting Park, 11th Street and Hunting Park Avenue; Smith Playground, 24th Street and Snyder Avenue; and the South Philadelphia Super Site, 10th and Bigler streets.

The championship game will be played at Talen Energy Stadium, in Chester, home of the Philadelphia Union.
