Block Gives Back promotes peace and play

The Block Gives Back on Saturday held its annual Peace & Play Day at Rivera Recreation Center, at 5th Street and Allegheny Avenue.

The day included a DJ, potato sack races, face painting, food, drinks, dodgeball and musical chairs.

Vendors included the Jack Costello Boxing Club, Avon, Turning Points for Children and Haircuts for the Homeless. Training was available for people interested in learning how to use naloxone to bring back to life someone who overdoses on drugs.

State Rep. Joe Hohenstein played volleyball and addressed the crowd.

U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle also addressed the crowd, and was on the winning tug of war team.

Tom Roush, president of the Block, won the watermelon-eating contest for the second year in a row. ••
