A longtime Philadelphia police officer most recently assigned to the 15th District was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 16, and charged with stalking and harassment.

Officer Robert McDonald Jr., 45, of the Far Northeast, was suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss by Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter, the department said in a statement.

The charges against McDonald, a 22-year veteran of the force, stem from an internal affairs investigation into allegations of stalking and harassment that occurred this past spring and summer, police said.

The department did not reveal specifics regarding the investigation. Both of the charges are misdemeanors.

A Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 spokesman declined to comment on the arrest or pending termination.

McDonald was released pending court proceedings. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 15. ••
