Grant will help tenants avoid eviction

State Rep. Jared Solomon last week presented a $25,000 grant to the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network to provide support to households and landlords to help Northeast families avoid eviction during a temporary period of financial crisis.

“This grant is critical in helping to ensure families facing a temporary period of financial crisis can find some solace in not having to worry about facing eviction because they can’t afford a month’s rent,” Solomon said. “I am excited to continue working closely with Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network to reduce homelessness throughout Northeast Philly and our entire city.”

Solomon joined PIHN executive director Rachel Falkove and director of operations Bob Bryne and two residents who benefited from the program at his district office to present the grant to the organization.

“We saw that there were lots of people in the Northeast who needed help. We’ve got lots and lots of phone calls; actually, Rep. Solomon’s office were many of those phone calls. But…with the Keystone Communities grant, we’re able to evaluate the families’ ledger and make up the difference to pay that one month’s rent and catch those families up,” Falkove said. “The Keystone Communities grant is allowing us to build up our staff in the Northeast.” ••
