Promoting voting at satellite offices

Michael Barnes, president of International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 8, speaks outside a satellite voting office at George Washington High School.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 8 spent Friday outside George Washington High School, promoting the city’s satellite voting offices.

Michael Barnes and Matt McIntyre, president and vice president, respectively, of the union, were among those in attendance. A banner proclaimed, “Good things happen in Philadelphia,” with the word “Bad” crossed out.

A DJ played music, and union members handed people “I voted today” buttons.

IATSE has endorsed Joe Biden for president, but Friday’s event was nonpartisan. The union encourages all voters to go to votetodayinpa.com to learn more about the process.

Candidates are welcome to place signs outside satellite voting offices. For instance, outside Washington, there were signs for Biden, Martina White, Mike Doyle and Nina Ahmad. Also, the Working Families Party set up a table.

Other local satellite offices are at J. Hampton Moore Elementary School, 6900 Summerdale Ave.; Joseph H. Brown Elementary School, 3600 Stanwood St.; and Harding Middle School, 2000 Wakeling St.

Hours are Monday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday to Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ••
