Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 last Friday offered free Mister Softee ice cream cones outside the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office.
Mister Softee will return on May 7 and 14. DA Larry Krasner, elected in 2017, faces former homicide prosecutor Carlos Vega in the May 18 Democratic primary.
The FOP has endorsed Vega, with president John McNesby arguing that the challenger has integrity and independence while Krasner employs soft-on-crime policies that have made Philadelphia unsafe and dangerous.
Activist Asa Khalif used a megaphone to refer to FOP members as “racist motherf——” and a black FOP official on hand as a “coon” and a “Negro.” Khalif shouted that any black or brown person who accepted a free ice cream “should be a f—— ashamed of yourself.”
FOP members dismissed Khalif’s comments by referring to him by his birth name, Earl. ••
