Virtual discussion on scrolls
The adult education committee of Congregations of Shaare Shamayim invites the public to a virtual discussion about Czech Torah scrolls on Wednesday, May 19, at 7:30 p.m.
Lois Roman, a trustee of the Memorial Scrolls Trust, will explain how this London-based nonprofit agency oversees the legacy of 1,504 Czech Torah scrolls that survived the Shoah. A large majority of these scrolls have been dispersed on permanent loan to caring communities around the world.
In fact, CSS has one in its lobby. There is no charge for this program, but donations are appreciated.

Upcoming programs at CSS
Congregations of Shaare Shamayim will be hosting a virtual fundraiser on Sunday, May 23, at 4 p.m. It will feature a tour of the Carmel Market of Tel Aviv (Shuk), titled From Our Jewish Home to Our Jewish Homeland, led by Danny Stein.
On Monday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m., David Jaison will present Mentalism Beyond Belief.
On Tuesday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a showing of the movie Holy Land Hardball – the dream to bring America’s favorite pastime of baseball to the Middle East.
The cost for this weekend is $40 per program or $80 for all three.

Didinger publishes book
Veteran sports journalist Ray Didinger will discuss his memoir, My Fifty Years of Headlines, Heroes and Heartaches, in a virtual event at the Free Library of Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 26, at 7:30 p.m.

Seaport Museum to commemorate WWI Anniversary
On May 28, the Independence Seaport Museum, at 211 S. Columbus Blvd., will open a new exhibit aboard Olympia titled Difficult Journey Home, which will detail the Cruiser’s treacherous 15-day journey from Le Havre, France to the Washington Navy Yards in the fall of 1921. For its annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 31, the Museum will unveil a permanent historical marker on Olympia that commemorates the Unknown Soldier and memorializes his story for future visitors. ••
Eddie Bruce in concert
Cabaret singer, bandleader and former Dancin’ On Air host Eddie Bruce returns to the live performing arena after a year’s layoff with Celebrating the Music and the Magic of Tony Bennett, at the Bucks County Playhouse, 70 S. Main St. in New Hope, with two Memorial Day weekend shows.
Show times are 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 30.

Attend Memorial Day ceremony
Boy Scout Troop 166, Burholme Town Watch and Take Back Your Neighborhood welcome the community to attend the Memorial Day ceremony to rededicate the World War I Memorial at Cottman, Oxford and Rising Sun avenues.
The ceremony will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 31.
Cleaning, new lighting and flags are among some of the recent upgrades completed for the 103rd anniversary of the end of World War I.
Among those attending the ceremony will be state Rep. Jared Solomon, Councilman Brian O’Neill and former Councilman Al Taubenberger. ••
Virtual beef and beer
The Men’s Club of Congregations of Shaare Shamayim will host a virtual beef and beer on Wednesday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m.
The cost is $18 per person.
The guest will be Inquirer sports columnist Mike Sielski.

St. Hubert taking summer trip
The sixth annual St. Hubert Summer Fun Trip will take place on Tuesday, June 22.
The day will start with a one-hour ride on an Atlantic City cruise ship.
Next is a four-hour stay at Resorts Casino, with $10 back in slot cash.
The day will end with a sitdown dinner and wine tasting at Tomasello Winery, in Hammonton.
A bus will depart St. Hubert at 8:45 a.m. and return at about 9 p.m. Masks must be worn on the trip. Eating and drinking on the bus are prohibited, and there is no bathroom use. Temperatures will be taken as you enter the bus.
The cost is $90.
