Another daycare coming to Rising Sun Ave.

Mark Mroz, community relations officer in the 2nd Police District, provides a crime update.

The Lawncrest Community Association last week approved a bid by a woman to open a daycare at 6520 Rising Sun Ave.

A Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing is set for Sept. 8.

The daycare will accommodate up to 24 children.

Some people in the crowd expressed concern about double parking during pickup and dropoff, trash in the rear of the property and a loud pit bull that lives in an apartment above the property.

In other zoning news, the Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a duplex at 5966 Elsinore St. (at Comly Street). The owner had appeared in front of the LCA seeking to legalize a triplex. Members unanimously opposed that proposal, not happy that the owner performed work without permits. Zoning allowed only a single-family home before the ZBA ruling.

A potential buyer of an open piece of ground at 6324 Newtown Ave. plans to meet with the LCA again. At an earlier meeting, members were skeptical of a proposed 8-unit apartment complex.

At next month’s meeting, the LCA will consider proposals for a special assembly party space at 6330 Rising Sun Ave. and a grocery store at 600 Brill St. (at Bingham Street).

At November’s meeting, the civic will hear plans for a body shop at 6610 Habrook Ave.
